Lose Yourself in 1955: A Look into Sweet Tooth Hotel Chapter II
When you hear the name Sweet Tooth Hotel, you might assume it’s another boutique stay in Dallas. In reality, it’s something entirely different, it’s an immersive installation concept founded by Cole and Jencey Keeton, spotlighting some of DFW’s most acclaimed artists. 1955 marks the second chapter in Sweet Tooth Hotel’s rotating series of exhibitions, featuring work by Built by Bender, Jeremy Biggers, Rob Wilson, Jojo Chuang, and Shamsy Roomiani, alongside new additions Hatziel Flores and Drigo. This year’s theme is distinctly retrofuturistic, evoking cinematic parallels to 2001: A Space Odyssey and the 1951 Golden Globe winner The Day the Earth Stood Still.
From the outside, the building blends into the cityscape, until you notice vibrant pops of color spilling through the windows, hinting at the world inside. Step through the doors and you’re immediately transported into another dimension. The 1,200 sq. ft. venue is divided into sections, each meticulously designed by the featured artists. For photographers, it’s an Instagram goldmine: immersive sets, striking compositions, and dramatic lighting perfect for portraits. While lighting can run on the moody side, flash isn’t necessary, making it easy to capture cinematic content. The only challenge? Space. At full capacity (around 21 people), maneuvering can feel tight. For the best creative flexibility, we recommend bringing one or two collaborators max. Thankfully, future installations will expand to a larger venue, opening doors for even bigger productions.
Our standout favorite? The Rainbow Rocketship installation by Bender and Jojo Chuang. This room feels like stepping inside a spaceship, complete with passageways, control panels, plasma globes, and props that spark the imagination. The interactive lighting lets you control the colors and effects, from strobing pulses to subtle fades, while mirrored walls create opportunities for flawless reflection shots and bold symmetry.
