We reached out to local artist @omnibus214 who will be featured in the upcoming @psychedelicrobot 2.0 and asked several questions to help our audience gain some insight into who Omnibus is and what the install is about. Okay Omnibus, time to spill the tea. ☕️
Q: Who are you and what do you do?
A: I am Omnibus and I create "art" in a wide variety of mediums and with a new avant-garde approach (so I have been told).
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: I do what I do because it first started as something to relax me, but soon people became more and more interested in my artwork. Now I do it for people to enjoy my pieces, as well as to give perspective to various meanings/emotions that can be seen through my pieces.
Q: What’s your background?
A: Lol. Interesting question, my background is diverse to say the least.
Q: What style of art do you most identify with?
A: I identify with my style of art and/or the style that I am working on at the present time.
Q: What work do you most enjoying doing?
A: I most enjoy doing work that is unique, intrinsic, and work that people can also enjoy.
Q: What themes do you pursue?
A: That’s an interesting question…I don’t necessarily pursue a theme or themes, as art to me isn’t something of repetition, as opposed to the creativity of the mind or a niche in the market to reproduce the same concept or creative limitation. So, I can’t say I have a theme, my creativity is my theme and/or what I am feeling at that particular moment.
Q: What’s your scariest experience you’ve had while creating your art?
A: Lol. I can’t tell you that or I might get in trouble! I have…how can you say...scary moments where my art was in places maybe it wasn’t support to be? lol. I hope that answers the question.
Q: What’s your favorite art work?
A: My favorite artwork is art that is clever yet blunt, but it depends on my mood, what’s playing on the radio, what’s going on in the world, etc.
Q: What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
A: I have had a wide variety of jobs in various socioeconomic levels that have allowed me to create art for a wide range of people to enjoy and connect to.
Q: Why art?
A: Why not? Art is all around us and I didn’t pick art...art picked me apparently. lol.
Q: What food, drink, song inspires you?
A: I am not sure about the inspiration part, but I can tell you what I love which puts me in a good mood to create art: food, hands down CHIPOTLE. Drink? I am a CocaCola fan and song...hmmm depends on what’s going on in my life.
Q: What do you dislike about the art world?
A: I don't like the subjectivity vs. objective approach when art critics analyze art without knowing the artists’ conceptual approach. However, in a market economy where value is placed on the consumers’ demand for art, many artists feel that they have to be more commercialized or produce art that sells, as opposed to art that is truly ART and is created from the soul.
Q: What is your dream project?
A: Ah, the word DREAM...I don’t like to use the word DREAM because a DREAM is something that is almost not attainable or not within our grasps. I would say that I have goals and one of my goals is to have many people enjoy my art, as well as, create a style that people can continue to enjoy for many years to come.
Q: Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
A: To be honest, I don’t think I can name 3 artists I would like to be compared to as there are so many talented artists, I wouldn’t do any justice naming 3. BUT, I can tell you what I want to be known for, which is being OMNIBUS.
Q: Favorite or most inspirational place in Dallas?
A: Dallas is such a diverse city with rich history so again, I can’t pick a specific spot, but I would say all of Dallas.
Q: If your art had the power to change anything in the world, what would it be?
A: I would want my art to change the world in the most positive way possible (generic I know), but it maximizes the potential of the most good. 😉
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
A: Life advice or art advice? Life Advice, I can’t say in this interview. Art advice, "Always keep learning..." which I completely embrace because any artist who says they know it all, knows nothing.
Q: Professionally, what’s your goal?
A: To be successful enough and to have the influence to offer other artists who may not have the opportunity to have it, and help them grow and display their work at the biggest exhibitions in the world. I truly believe that an artist is secure with what they do and should live FULL CIRCLE.
Q: Why should people come see your work at Psychedelic Robot?
A: People should first come and see the show because there is a power-hitting list of amazing artists from all across the globe. The quality of Bivins’ Gallery and a show like Psychedelic Robot is extremely difficult (as an artist) to be selected/exhibited in, and you can bet your bottom dollar that the Bivins Gallery brought nothing but the best. I’m honored to be a part of the show.
Regarding my work, you should come see it because:
1- All of my pieces are for sale as opposed to exhibits without pieces for sale.
2- I am utilizing a unique approach and offering a medium that not many people have ever seen before.
3- Regardless of your background or financial situation there are pieces for everyone.
4- Our set up is awesome.
5- My stuff is cool (just like the other artists).
